Meet Julia!

Julia is a graduate level student at Duquesne University, working towards their Master's Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling under the supervision of Open Space CCW's Hayley Roverana, MSW, LCSW.

Who I Help

I am passionate about working with the LGBTQIA+ community, gender non-conforming individuals, students struggling with transitional anxiety, folks struggling with chronic pain and illness, individuals who have traumatic experiences or generational trauma, folks with self-esteem struggles or body dysmorphia, and anyone looking for a safe, non-judgmental space to vent!

I love being able to help fellow members of the LGBTQIA+ community cultivate ways to better themselves and their lives. I love being able to be open and honest about my identity and values in my professional work, and love being able to help others to do the same. Through my own therapeutic interventions, as well as watching loved ones benefit from counseling, I love being able to help others on their personal journey to well-being. I love working in a field that encourages the notion that healing and learning are not linear, but rather everyone's path is unique and individual.

What Can you Expect?

I am queer and very open about my queer identity because my hope is that in living my full, authentic life, it'll be easier for you to do the same.

Identity and labels can be very important to us as individuals. I want to help you explore any and every aspect of your identity you are open to. I value honesty above all else, and consider myself to be a gentle, yet direct person. I also try to find the humor and beauty in everything and try to cultivate this in my therapeutic relationships. My main priority is validating and encouraging you to better yourself and your life.

I want to work collaboratively with you to create a space and therapeutic style that works best for you. I want to work WITH you, not for you, and I encourage self-exploration and self-questioning in sessions in order to learn more about you. As as therapist, I strive to change people's outlook on counseling as something that has a strict timeline. For me, I aim to not only help you with the concerns that originally may have brought you into therapy, but also want to emphasize the importance of taking care of your mental well-being long-term. Everyone's counseling journey and timeline are different, and no journey is better than another.

My family contains immigrants and farmers, so I grew up with my closest family members having experience extreme xenophobia and classism, which has made me competent in the difficulties of generational trauma. I also have always been a plus size individual, and practice body acceptance and body positivity daily.

When I'm not at Open Space CCW, you may also find me...

Relaxing in nature, exploring new & used record stores, trying my hand at cooking a new recipe, spending time with my friends, and hanging out with my kitty, Rory!
