Who I Help
Exhaustion doesn't begin to cut it. You don't want to admit it--but you need some help. And maybe even more than that, you need a break. You've been able to hold it together and create the image of the person you want people to think you are, but it's getting harder and harder to manage things on your own. You feel so isolated. As much as they try, people just don't get it. This is different.
You feel "other". You feel like you're starting to lose your identity. And sometimes you find yourself questioning what that even was to begin with.
You're on edge. Your patience is nada. You're snapping at everyone around you, and it's not the vibe you want for you or your family. You feel like you're just all over the place, and you need to learn how to reel it all in so you feel more in control of your life--instead of life of controlling you.
You need an ally and a support to help you navigate this tough stuff. I can help.
How I Help
My passion is helping people gain the skills they need to feel more in control over their lives, and build (or rebuild) connections that are important to them and will help them thrive. Because, you will learn, we can't do this life thing in isolation.
I've worked at the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs for over a decade, helping Veterans and their families overcome trauma and feel more confident in their ability to manage their mental health in a healthy way.
I am trained in EMDR for trauma/PTSD, which I've found to be extraordinarily effective in decreasing trauma-related symptoms and concerns. I also use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), marital therapy approaches, and psychodynamic approaches, depending on what areas of concern are being presented. We can chat about these options and determine together what may work best for you.
My lived experience with my son (Jack!) who is on the Autism Spectrum also allows me to help support you in a different way. Sometimes, simply hearing "me too" can be so validating and freeing. At minimum, it dissolves "they won't understand" as a barrier to therapy (nice try though!).
What Can You Expect?
There is room in therapy for laughter! If you are into wit and humor, we may be a good fit. I have a relaxed, down to earth and friendly vibe that clients have told me helped make them feel more comfortable early on. I'm also non-judgmental and supportive, which is so important in this process. If we don't talk about it, we can't get better!
When I'm not at Open Space CCW, you may also find me...
Binging on a Netflix series, reading, listening to music, watching movies, and spending time with my family and friends.
